   Angola edges Egypt to claim the title - Jul. 23, 2007

In the clash of two strongholds of African basetball Angola narrowly defeated Egypt to win All-Africa Games. They extended their tournament best record and celebrated a well-deserved victory.
Egypt entered the game more confidently as the grabbed an early 16:12 lead. However Angola managed to level the game and surged ahead in the second quarter. They established a 27:24 gap at halftime. The distance kept on growing as Angola used numerous Egyptian mistakes in the third quarter to spur ahead. Angola secured a 46:36 dominance at the start of the final frame. Egypt tried hard to cut the deficit and came as close as 6 points but Angola wisely used ball possession at the dying seconds to ensure the victory and the title.
Mayzer Alexandre (185-G-84) nailed 15 points to lead Angola. Victor Muzadi (201-C/F-78) delivered 10 points and 6 boards for the champions. Egypt replied with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists from Ismail Amed. Tarek Taha added 11 points and 11 boards in defeat. Egypt dominated the boards 39:35. Angola at the same time shot better 40% from the field.

  Angola advances to the final by beating Mali 74-60 - Jul. 21, 2007 
The B-Team of Angola sneaked past Mali to meet Egypt in the finals of the All-African Games in Algeria. Mayzer Alexandre (185-G-84) and Domingos Bonifacio (189-G-84) led the Angolans with 16 points each while Vladimir Geronimo (193-F-78) (11) and Walter Costa (185-G-73) (10) scored also in double digits for the hosts of the African Championships. Mali was led by France-based Modibo Niakate (185-G-81, college: Cleveland St.) who collected 15 points and three assists , while Sory Diakite (170-G-73) netted in 12 points and Modibo Diarra (208-F/C-80, college: Memphis) another 10 points. Mali meets now Nigeria for the third-place game who lost surprisingly to Egypt in the other semi-final.

  Lone Star travelling home without recording a win - Jul. 20, 2007 
The All African Games should be an experience to build on for the Liberian national team.The young and inexperienced squad of head coach Allen Jallah recorded five straight defeats in Algeria and had to travel home without a positive outing at the ongoing tournament. While other nations went overseas (Angola went to Brasil , Mali to rance and the Ivory Coast even to the US) , the Liberians stayed at home to practice , and received conditioning problems while playing on the basketball courts in Algeria as the measurements there are under FIBA statutes while the courts at home are significantly smaller. " My players experienced fatigue during the last quarters of the games due to the lack of adequate basketball courts in Liberia", tells us Jallah before departing to Monrovia. Now the national team has to prepare once again for an even bigger event, the Afrobasket 2007 in Angola scheduled for Mid-August. If the preperations are going to be held the same way, the Lone Star risks a bigger debacle then in Algeria as most teams will be flying in their stars from all the professional leagues of the world including the NBA.

  Lone Star suffered another loss  - Jul. 17, 2007 
The Lone Star suffered the fourth loss in the fourth game in Algeria against continental basketball powerhouse Nigeria.
After a day of rest, the Liberian national team had to take on Nigeria led by captain Olumide Oyedeji (208-C/F-81) , a former NBA player.
Although Nigeria fielded a B-Team for the All-Africa Games ,it was fairly good enough to beat the inexperienced players of Liberia 79-57 in yesterday's game.
"We always having a good first and a good second quarter , but due to the lack of experience and preperation, we lost the games in the last quarters when players are fatigue and dont know how to adjust their shooting mechanics against bigger and more experienced opponents ", tells head coach Allen Jallah from Algeria.He is hoping that the Liberian Basketball Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports is supporting the national team for the African Championships in Angola by bringing in more foreign-based players to strenghten the team.Meanwhile, the winless squad of the Dem.Rep. of Congo is today's rival for the fifth place , we hope the Liberians are able to finish the trip with a win in the last game.
