Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Owls players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
Notice impressive performance of Michael Forrest (22 points), Karlis Silins (17 points), and Giancarlo Rosado (11 points).
#1. Michael Forrest, a 6'1'' shooting guard aged 26, is a standout player who graduated from FAU in 2023 after helping them secure the C-USA Regular Season Champion title that year. Currently playing professionally in Spain, he recently showcased his skills in a thrilling victory for Universidad Catolica de Murcia CB against the 14th-ranked Lleida, with a commanding 116-95 win in the Spanish Liga Endesa. In this game, Forrest truly shone, contributing significantly with 22 points and 6 assists in just 22 minutes of play. This remarkable performance is particularly impressive given that Forrest is only in his third season of professional basketball. Universidad Catolica de Murcia CB, with a season record of 25-9, currently holds the third position in the league standings, thanks in part to Forrest's stellar contributions. This victory marked the team's third consecutive win, setting an exciting tone for the final stretch of the Regular Season, with only two games remaining. Every game now holds immense importance as teams jostle for favorable positions heading into the playoffs. Forrest's notable season stats of 11.9 points per game, along with 1.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists, reflect his consistent impact on the court. His standout performance against Lleida, where he led his team to victory as the champion of the game, underscores his growing influence and skill as a professional basketball player.
#2. Latvian Karlis Silins, a 6'11'' forward/center aged 28 and a 2021 Owls alumnus, currently playing professionally in Lithuania, showcased his skills for Neptunas in their recent game last Friday. Despite his outstanding performance, Neptunas, with a record of 17-15, was narrowly defeated 86-83 on the road by the lower-ranked Juventus, sitting at #7 in the standings. Silins emerged as the standout player in the game, leading his team in scoring with 17 points and contributing 8 rebounds in just 24 minutes of play. His remarkable performance against Juventus included not only his scoring and rebounding but also 2 assists. Despite his exceptional efforts, Neptunas couldn't secure the victory and ended up on the losing side. Throughout the season, Silins has maintained solid averages of 9.4 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, showcasing his consistency and valuable contributions to the team.
#3. In a recent Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional match, Giancarlo Rosado, a 6'8'' forward, showcased his skills by leading Santeros de Aguada to a notable victory over the leading team, Atleticos, with a score of 94-87. Despite being a finalist in his college years at FAU between 2020 and 2024, Rosado continues to excel in his professional career, currently playing in Puerto Rico. During the game, Rosado contributed significantly with 11 points in just 25 minutes of play, aiding his team in securing the win. This pivotal match-up between Santeros de Aguada and Atleticos, both top 3 ranked teams in Group A, was a highlight of the round. Following this victory, Santeros de Aguada, with a record of 11-11, solidified their position as a contender in the league, currently holding the third spot. Not only did Rosado excel in scoring, but he also showcased his versatility by grabbing 2 rebounds and providing 2 assists in another game against San German, contributing to another victory for his team. This exceptional performance undoubtedly highlights Rosado's prowess on the court, further solidifying his reputation as a champion. Throughout the season, Rosado has maintained impressive averages of 8.5 points per game, along with 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists, showcasing his well-rounded skills and value to his team.
#4. Experienced Jackson Trapp, standing at 6'4'' and aged 33, is a notable Owls alumnus from 2016 who currently competes professionally in the TBL. Despite his impressive resume, Trapp, playing for the Kissimmee Lambs with an 11-4 record, could not lead his team to victory in their recent game against the Raleigh Firebirds. The Lambs, ranked #4, suffered a 109-97 defeat at the hands of the Firebirds, despite Trapp's stellar performance as the team's top scorer with 20 points. Additionally, he contributed 5 rebounds and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line during his 29 minutes on the court. Trapp showcased his skills against the Firebirds, excelling with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. However, his exceptional efforts were not enough to secure a win for the Kissimmee Lambs. Throughout the season, Trapp has maintained solid statistics, averaging 10.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. It is worth noting that Trapp has a background as a former participant in the prestigious Eurobasket Summer League, recognized as a top platform for players aiming to pursue basketball opportunities overseas.
#5. Greg Gantt, a 6'2'' guard who is 34 years old and graduated from FAU in 2013, currently plays professionally in Spain. Recently, he showcased his skills by leading Sant Antoni to a 71-56 victory over the second-ranked Caja 87 in the Spanish Segunda FEB (third division) on Saturday night. Gantt, who received the All-Sun Belt First Team award in 2013, was named the MVP of the game after scoring 16 points in 33 minutes of play. This game was highly anticipated as it featured two of the top 3 ranked teams in group East, with Sant Antoni Ibiza (19-7) holding the third position. The victory marked Gantt's team's third consecutive win, showcasing their strong performance this season. With 16 points and 1 rebound against Caja 87, Gantt's exceptional contribution on the court played a crucial role in his team emerging as the champions of the game. Throughout this season, Gantt has maintained an average of 9.1 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game. Noteworthy is the fact that he holds both American and Spanish citizenship, allowing him to play in Spain as a domestic player and contribute significantly to his team's success.
